The Victorian State Government is funding a major upgrade to the intersection of Thompsons Road and Berwick-Cranbourne Road in Clyde North. This infrastructure project is expected to ease congestion in the area and support the rapidly growing population in Melbourne’s south-east.
The project includes removing the existing roundabouts, which will be replaced with traffic lights, along with the addition of new through and turning lanes at the intersections. The upgrade will also see new shared paths, as well as improved bus stops for pedestrians, cyclists and commuters. Together, these changes aim to create safer travel conditions and more reliable journeys through the area.
SoilWorx was engaged to assist with the major upgrade by supplying materials to facilitate the construction of the new lane and associated civil works.
Over the course of the project, SoilWorx supplied:
- 15,000 tonnes of VicRoads Type A Fill
- 500 tonnes of VicRoads Filter Media
- 1,200 tonnes of Class 3, 3% Cement Treated (CT)
As a whole, this project forms part of a broader Victorian Big Build program that is transforming the south-east area through improved road connections and faster travel times to residential, educational, and health precincts.

Like all major road upgrades, the project included a number of logistical and technical requirements. As the works were being undertaken on an active road, the coordination and timing of deliveries were crucial to avoid disruption to construction and the road network.
As a result, our work was undertaken outside of hours on Sundays, leading to restricted work windows and tight delivery coordination.
SoilWorx supplied approximately 1,200 tonnes of 3% Cement-treated Class 3 stabilised material, which required careful mixing to maintain quality standards. In all this, we ensured compliance and on-time delivery within the restricted time slots.
SoilWorx worked closely with the on-site team to provide compliant material supply in accordance with the outlined specifications.
SoilWorx product supply
SoilWorx laid the foundations for the construction of the new Thompsons Road and Berwick-Cranbourne Road intersection upgrade project.
Our team supplied approximately 15,000 tonnes of Type A Fill to the site to facilitate road construction, 500 tonnes of VicRoads Filter Media for drainage, in accordance with VicRoads specifications, and 1,200 tonnes of 3% Cement-treated Class 3 stabilised material, manufactured to meet project performance needs.
Material testing was also carried out to confirm compliance with VicRoads Type A requirements and Subsurface Drainage requirements under VicRoads Section 702. Test results confirmed that materials met the specified grading and quality criteria.
SoilWorx successfully delivered the materials to the site, meeting the strict VicRoads requirements and within the restricted delivery windows. In doing so, we supported the progression of the MRPV Cranbourne/Thompsons Road upgrade, providing the project team with high-quality materials and reliable supply.
The materials supplied assisted in the construction of new traffic lanes, which will lead to improved traffic flow and capacity through the rapidly growing south-east. This project also reinforces SoilWorx's capability to service large-scale infrastructure projects across Victoria.
